What key products do we offer or plan to offer?

Araneo currently provides fixed rate symmetric broadband data circuits ranging in speed from 2mbps through 20mbps, at distances of between 200 meters and 20km, using extremely low-cost technology. With our currently deployed hardware platform we are capable of offering our wireless broadband products of 20mbps at distances of up to 40km. Using emerging 60GHz Microwave and free-space optical products available to us off the shelf today, we can offer up to 100mbps at 2km, and up to 2.4Gbps at .5km.

A key product under development is provision of service to entire commercial and residential buildings with a single high-capacity radio link. Once terminated to in-building wiring, a link can be broken down into low-capacity ADSL-competitive products, which can then be ramped up as demand for high-capacity services emerges in the residential market. The potential for revenue in pre-wired buildings is extremely high.

A product to be explored is provision of redundant or backup links to large corporations and government departments. Coupled with nationwide radio transit from BCL or satellite uplink from Optus or IPStar, Araneo could offer guaranteed business continuity in the event of an earthquake or other natural disaster. As E1-capacity radio and VSAT can be run with extremely low power, Araneo could promise continuous service without electricity for a week or more.

Given the advances in RF and laser technology of the past five years, we expect to be able to offer 100mbps at 5km for business and 30mbps at 5km for home use within five years. While well behind the potential speeds of fibre to the home, such products easily surpass the capabilities of DSL and cable products that providers such as Telecom and Telstra are deploying as "next generation" broadband. For reference, 30mbps to the home, available now in South Korea and Japan, allows for up to four simultaneous HDTV streams or 200 CD quality audio streams.
